About Us

Name change - but no change in our mission

SETPOINT Essex changed its name to STEMTEAM Essex but that is all that is different in our mission to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - the STEM subjects.

The new name more firmly embeds Mathematics into the STEM agenda. The change ensures that Mathematics takes its proper place as an equal, alongside Science, Technology and Engineering.  This can be more positively promoted to young people through targeted activities. Our enthusiastic staff and volunteers increase awareness of the wide range of future job opportunities available in these sectors. They are dedicated to encouraging young people to consider STEM subject areas in their future further education and career planning.

The purpose of StemTeam Essex is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (or STEM subjects) to young people through a wide range of activities. Our enthusiastic staff and volunteers increase awareness of the wide range of future job opportunities available in these sectors and we are working towards encouraging young people to consider these subject areas in their future further education and career planning.

StemTeam Essex is part of a national network, co-ordinated across the UK by STEMNET. Every Learning and Skills Council area has a StemTeam working with local young people. StemTeam Essex works across geographical Essex, including Southend and Thurrock, providing a wide range of challenging activities. We also recruit business volunteers to share their enthusiasm with young people. Click on the STEMNET logo to go to the STEMNET home page.
